Political Marginalisation

Political marginalization can be observed when people are kept out of the decision-making process, when they are not allowed to vote or to run for public offices, when they are not protected by law in an equal way or when they cannot hope that justice be done if they resort to a court.

  • Total or partial denial of civil, political or human rights or freedoms

  • Also in democratic states (few governments with members not male and 40+ in age)
  • Shows political resentment among youth, resulting in low voter turnout and radical movements
  • Participation of youth is crucial for good governance
